Math Manipulatives
I just wrapped up my first year as an instructional coach. I learned so much this year and plan to share a few of the things on the blog, starting with math manipulatives. While math manipulatives are nothing new, I did want to share some ways to keep them organized or for use if you find yourself with a large excess of manipluatives like I did! Let’s start with school-wide organization. (I’ve tried to link all pictures whenever possible)
First, we have A LOT of manipulatives at my school, so many. With the adoption of new math curriculums we just keep getting more and more so I wanted to try and organize the older manipulatives to replace ones that need replacing and make them usable. I started with these tubs and labels.
Next, there’s classroom organization with these smaller clear boxes and labels. We have these in our PLC room and they are easily mobile for remediation too.
Next, student organization! I use a lot of different ways to organize from bags, to trays to jars. Here are some ideas!
We use place value disks a lot and I have organized them lots of ways. We have them in a clear bin, in clear jars, and in a photo organizer. We use all the ways depending on the setting (small group/whole group/individual).
Since we had SO many manipulatives I have also used them to create task boxes for our younger students or special education classes. Here are some the boxes! You can find all the materials in my Amazon Storefront and the printable items in my TPT store!
Last but not least, I also put manipluatives into ziploc bags to send home for home practice! The ways to practice are included in my Math Manipulative Organization file!
